Experimental Design - Latin Square

Project Overview

Trained researchers to control for learning effects by using a latin square when assessing multiple aspects with the same participants (within subjects design).

Goal: A researcher on the team wanted to observe users go through the app flow when everything went correctly (happy path) and when they encountered a problem (failure path)

Role: Help a researcher design a study to assess an app flow while having users go through the happy path and a failure path. Prevent learning from influencing user success in either path

Method: Create a latin square with the research and explain the importance of balancing the order of these tasks across participants. Providing practical guidance for how to run this type of study and avoid errors in presenting these orders, such as listing out the number of participants and each order to be presented to them and crossing out each one as you run it

Impact: The researcher was able to design and run the study using the Latin Square to minimize learning effects.
